Dr. Kopelman will review your medical history as well as the prescription and non-prescription medications you may be taking. You must stop all blood thinners at least two weeks prior to surgery to minimize bleeding and post operative bruising and swelling. In addition, if you smoke you must refrain from smoking for two weeks prior to surgery because it may negatively effect the outcome of your healing process.

Dr. Kopelman will review the surgical options available to you, and answer any questions you may have. Prior to surgery you will be able to tour the Ridgewood Ambulatory Surgery Center, a state-of-the-art surgical facility, located on the premises of his consultation office. You will also be able to meet with our caring nursing staff that will be part of your team. A mini-facelift is usually performed under local anesthesia with intravenous “twilight’”sedation. The procedure takes approximately two hours. The goal of a mini facelift is to reposition sagging soft tissue through a short incision. Fat below your chin and neck will be recontoured with liposuction. Underlying sagging muscle will be tightened and excess skin will be trimmed. Fine sutures will be hidden within your natural creases around your ears.

Following the mini facelift procedure, a gauze dressing will be applied under your chin and in front of your ears. These dressings will be removed the next day. Some swelling and bruising is expected following surgery. This usually resolves rapidly over approximately one to two week period. Side effects of a mini-facelift can be minimized by avoiding any blood thinners prior to surgery. Most patients typically experience little or no discomfort, but if there is any, it is easily controlled with over-the-counter pain medication. You will be examined by Dr. Kopelman and his nursing staff the next morning. Sutures will be removed in 5 to 7 days following the mini facelift surgery. You can resume your daily activities within one week and your exercise routine within two weeks. Incisional scars will be hidden in the natural creases of your face and ears and in time they will be barely visible. To ensure that you have the best possible results Dr. Kopelman will examine you at regularly scheduled intervals to monitor your progress. Most patients return to work about 7 to 10 days after the mini facelift surgery.

Cosmetic surgery will “turn back the clock” but you will continue to age. Each individual ages at a different pace therefore it is difficult to predict how long the benefits of a mini facelift will last for you but on average most people derive between five and ten years of benefit.
