A revision facelift is sometimes necessary after having already undergone a previous facelift. There are numerous reasons that patients may be unhappy with their previous facelift. When a patient decides to have a facelift they have high expectations so when complications do arise their disappointment is understandable. Often they believe that they don’t look as good as they did prior to surgery.
Dr. Kopelman is an expert in the reconstruction and revision of faces after a previous facelift that has gone awry. On a positive note complications can often be corrected with small interventions. A revision facelift requires very close attention to the smallest details due to previous manipulation of facial tissues.
There are two major reasons why people inquire about a facelift revision. One common reason is because the individual likely had a facelift over a decade ago and requires a secondary enhancement. Natural aging occurs, tissues sag and varies between individuals. Some facelifts regress faster than others and there are multiple reasons why that may occur including genetics, sun exposure, and inadequate face lifting techniques. The other common reason is due to an undertreated or overtreated facelift. The plastic surgeon might have tightened the skin and failed to simultaneously lift the supportive muscles of the face or the skin was stretched too aggressively which compromised the blood supply to the skin flap. The result of a failed facelift may cause the skin to breakdown leading to scarring, facial weakness, neck laxity, a pixie earlobe (the earlobe is pinned to the face or pulled vertically downward) or drooping of the cheeks. Many of these problems can be remedied with small revisions but other complications may take time to correct themselves. Dr. Kopelman will evaluate your problem and outline a course of treatment.
